Food Amnesia
So, I took a peek at South Beach Diet for Idiots a little bit ago, and was reminded of how much I used to love Edamame. I’d stopped eating them after I started SBD back in early 2004, because white rice is a no-no on SBD, and that meant that I had to stop going out for Japanese all the time. I’d totally forgotten about the things until reading that blog post, but they really are a fantastic snack.
Does anyone else ever just forget about particular foods, after going for a while without eating them? It’s kind of a bad thing, at times, because I like variety in what I eat, and it’s *really* not at all advantageous to forget about something that’s actually healthy and potentially good for a diet. It would’ve been handy to have some edamame around when I was casting around looking for snacks, and settled on some empty-calorie-laden thing, because I just couldn’t stand another bite of celery.
On the other hand, though, it’s a good thing, because if I cut out the really bad foods from my life, then after a while, I won’t remember they exist, until I see them somewhere at a restaurant, or on TV, or wherever else, many moons later. Well, that’s the theory, anyway. There are *some* cravings that still rear their ugly head no matter what! ;p
Food intake was pretty good yesterday. I was definitely feeling a snack attack later in the evening, but I tried to keep busy and managed to stave it off. I missed out on doing the elliptical machine, though, because I made the mistake of letting the dog off of his leash, and wound up having to chase after him across a huge, open field! He got a good scolding for not coming when he was called, and I just pooped out after that. Being scary and authoritative to my poor little dog was more draining than running after him!
It has been far too easy to be lazy this week… gotta put a stop to it.

Balsamic Vinagrette
It’s high time I shared another recipe, and this is another simple one. It’s something that I’ve had friends ask me how to make, on multiple occasions, and it’s so easy that everyone should be making some!
Balsamic Vinagrette
2 Tbsp. balsamic vinegar
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
1-2 Tsp. dijon mustard
1 Tsp. garlic powder
1 Tsp. basil (dried)
1 Tsp. olive oil
PREP TIME:
Combine all ingredients in a small container, preferably one with a lid. Put the lid on, and shake it up before serving. (told you it was easy!)
This is basically enough to put on one meal-sized salad, maybe two. You can adjust the garlic powder and herbs to your own taste. And, the amount of oil that I use in this is pretty minimal, so you can use a lot without worrying about it.
